![]() ![]() In a county where unemployment stood at 9.6 percent in July, largely due to the coronavirus pandemic, the continued growth of ecommerce and home-delivery options in shopping offered needed good news. “The expansion of Amazon’s footprint in Jacksonville illustrates an increased confidence in our economy and reputation as a center for logistics,” Mayor Lenny Curry said in written remarks that called the announcement “another big win for our community.” ![]() Local officials cheered the idea of adding to that total. Amazon said Wednesday it plans to add a new Jacksonville fulfillment center by the fall of 2021, adding 500 full-time jobs to a company whose local presence has quickly mushroomed.Ībout 5,500 people already work full-time for Amazon in Northeast Florida, said a spokesman for the online retail giant, whose first Jacksonville facility opened just three years ago. ![]()
